HFA AFFILIATE CLUBS
Scholar Victoria is a Melbourne based non-profit community organisation working to promote historical fencing as a martial art and modern sport, and we welcome everyone to take part, no matter their previous experience, level of fitness, or background.
We focus on the Longsword as it was used in the 15th and 16th century German sources, as well as 16th century sidesword and 19th century sabre.
THE SCHOOL OF HISTORICAL FENCING
Here at the School of Historical Fencing in Melbourne, we teach adults and children according to the Italian traditions of knightly combat, dueling/street fighting, and ‘keeping the youth occupied’. If you’re already familiar with HEMA, you might be keen on learning Fiore, Italian rapier, Bolognese/sword and buckler/swashbuckling, and Destreza. We also regularly run short courses on other topics of interest.
MELBOURNE MESSER CLUB
Melbourne Messer Club is a Fencing, Combat Sports and HEMA Club based in Victoria, Australia.
HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) attempts to reignite martial arts long thought dead as a combat sport and modern holistic martial practice with the interpretation and study of medieval manuscripts
BY THE SWORD BALLARAT
By The Sword Ballarat is a place for people of all ages and abilities to come together and learn the ancient art of Western Sword Fighting. I use the manuscripts of the ancient Masters Fiore de Liberi, Hans Talhoffer and George Silver. I offer HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) style classes, basic training and intermediate classes as well as classes tailored just for kids ages 6 and up.
Sword fighting is a fun and different way to get fit as it uses every muscle in the body and requires speed, strength and endurance to execute perfectly. It also improves your balance, reaction time, concentration levels, problem solving and quick thinking skills.
